  1. I am Sean's mother and I would like to tell you "the rest of the story." Sean said that he didn't win any friends from doing this brave deed with the little children and that is an understatement. Sean lost all the friends he had because of it...his teacher told me long after the fact that "Sean was totally ostracized from all his classmates for all of Grade 4." AND he did not win back the respect of his peers until the end of Grade 9 when to his great surprise, he got a standing ovation for winning Best Student of the Year award. I cried a lot that night because I knew that finally, my son was getting the respect he so deserved. In one of those 4 years of being "friendless" I remember him crying because no one came to his birthday party. My son paid dearly for standing up for the little children who were being treated badly that day; it would have been so easy for him to walk away and pretend he didn't see anything. And it didn't stop there. For all of his life, Sean has done the right thing for anyone who needs it. He has known there could be negative and painful repercussions but he has never stopped doing it. Sean will never say these things about himself but I, his mom, cannot let them go unsaid. He is one of the bravest, most sincere, most intuitive people I know and, as is evident in this article, he rarely gives himself the credit that he is due. I am so proud to be his mother.

  2. Hey Ma . . . you're $50 is in the mail. But, seriously, I really appreciate what you wrote! Our world would be in real trouble if it were not for the love of mothers.
